Professional
Mr. Lawrence retired from active practice in 2015 after a 43-year career in the law, 33 years of which were with the Firm. His career began in 1972 as law clerk to Tennessee Supreme Court Justices George McCanless and Joseph Henry. In 1974, he was appointed as the Supreme Court’s first full-time Staff Attorney. He later joined the NLT Corporation as Assistant General Counsel, and joined the Firm in 1982.
He was first named to Best Lawyers in America in 2009 and to Mid-South Super Lawyers in 2012. In 2014, he was named Nashville “Lawyer of the Year” for 2014-15 in the category of Personal Injury Litigation – Defendants. The selection was made by The Best Lawyers in America and was based upon peer review.
Mr. Lawrence was also selected by his peers for inclusion in the 21st Edition of The Best Lawyers in America in his practice areas including Medical Malpractice Law – Defendants and Personal Injury Litigation – Defendants.

Personal
Mr. Lawrence and his wife Carolyn met when they were both reporters for United Press International in Atlanta. Carolyn is now retired from a career in TV journalism with WSB-TV in Atlanta and WSMV-TV in Nashville. She also served as marketing manager for Channel 4 and for Cheekwood Botanical Garden and Museum of Art in Nashville. The Lawrences have two sons and two grandchildren. Mr. Lawrence has served on a number of non-profit boards and is currently webmaster for a Civil War historical website. His hobbies include writing, golf, reading, photography, fishing, and history.
