County governments tax real and personal property based on the value of that property, as determined by the Assessor of Property for the county. Property owners may contest the taxes assessed against their property. Typically, the dispute involves the value of the property. There are also disputes regarding ownership, classification, exemptions and other matters. We represent individuals and businesses in property tax disputes before county boards of equalization, the Tennessee State Board of Equalization, and, after completion of matters before the State Board, before the courts in the State of Tennessee. We work with professionals who also assist property owners in this area, including registered tax agents and real estate appraisers.
